Rock Chair

What was the first chair? a log, a rock? I think every designer has thought this at some point. I had originally sketched out two rocks strapped together for an exhibition. I was rejected from the show, but relieved to not have the logistical nightmare of sourcing and transporting giant boulders in NYC. I shared the concept online and my friend Ben Uyeda reached out wanting to help make it a reality. Ben had designed and built a hotel outside of Joshua Tree National Park. He is creating a sculpture garden on the property, and we thought it would be the perfect spot for the Rock Chair. Ben and I picked out some boulders and positioned them in place with an excavator, finishing the chair with a ratchet strap.
